Business description

BPIL manages parent bird farms, operates a hatchery and feed mill, and sells day-old chicks and feeds to chicken farmers throughout Uganda. The company is also a supplier of corn-soya meal to the World Food Program’s relief operations. The company is headquartered in Kampala.

Investment rationale

BPIL is the leading supplier of day-old chicks to Uganda’s chicken farmers. The company has attractive opportunities for growth in its day-old chick business domestically and abroad, as well as expansion opportunities in adjacent markets for chicken feeds and dressed chicken. Voxtra’s investment will enable the company to continue its growth in day-old chicks and address a large unmet demand for quality chicken feed.

Drivers of social impact

Day-old chicks and high-quality feeds are critical inputs for small and medium-sized chicken farmers. Increased supply of feed at consistent quality and at a stable price throughout the agricultural cycle will enable chicken farmers to increase capacity utilization and enable growth in productivity and income.
